NASA Goddard Space Flight Center

By Aida Yoguely Cortés-Peña
Summer 2012

I participated in the NASA MUST internship program and worked as an intern at the Goddard Space Flight Center. My summer project consisted on working with the Non Destructive Evaluation (NDE) Branch developing an infrared technique for material characterization of Thermal Diffusivity and Thermal Conductivity. Additionally I worked on inspection of composite subsurface defects by programming tools for area fraction measurement, line temperature profile, derivative image analysis, and Thermographic Signal Reconstruction. I also worked on quantifying delamination of materials, metal brazing, adhesion debonding, and subsurface defects in composites.

I interviewed my mentor Dr. Justin Jones and produced a video podcast (vodcast). In it, my mentor explains how he got a job at NASA and his field of non-destructive evaluation (NDE) and microscale testing of materials.

I presented my summer project at the Intern Open Mic. Below is a youtube video of my presentation.
